In the realm of social movements, history is filled with inspiring moments of change and progress. For example, the Civil Rights Movement in the United States led to significant advancements in racial equality. This movement included historic events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington, which ultimately resulted in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Another notable example is the Women’s Suffrage Movement, which fought for women’s right to vote. This movement achieved its goal with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, marking a major milestone in gender equality.

A Look at Three Inspiring Heroes

Dr. Carl Allamby

Carl Allamby grew up in East Cleveland, OH. He was the son of a minister who was forced to support the family as a door-to-door salesman. Carl’s mother stayed at home to take care of their six children.

Young Carl dreamed of becoming a doctor, but times were hard.

“We faced economic hardships throughout my upbringing and were on welfare for what seemed to be my entire childhood,” Carl states. The family was often without utilities and water.

The difficult circumstances forced the Allamby children to grow up in survival mode. An expensive education was not considered an option. As a result, becoming a doctor seemed out of Carl’s reach.

He attributes his family’s love and strong foundation helped him through the tough circumstances.

But, Mr. and Mrs. Allamby had also taught their children a strong work ethic. And to work for what they wanted.

With time, Carl grew up, married, and had children of his own. Eventually, he was able to open and run a successful auto body shop.

However, when Carl was 34, he enrolled in Ursuline College in Ohio to pursue a business degree. Yet, he fell in love with the Biology class he was required to take.

Carl changed his major and began pre-med classes in 2010. The rest was history, as he graduated from medical school at age 47 and completed his residency at the tender age of 51.

And in 2017, at the age of 51, Dr. Carl Allamby became the newest Emergency Medicine Physician at the Cleveland Clinic, where he continues to practice today.

Richard Nelder

Richard Nelder, of Arizona, was an army veteran. He became paralyzed from a spinal injury in 2005 while serving in Iraq. He was completely unable to move his legs. Sadly, Mr. Nelder was told by his medical team he would never walk again.

Little did they know an answer to his prayers would be developed in Israel years later.

However, Richard was forced to live in a wheelchair for many years, requiring extensive assistance to care for himself, bathing, dressing, grooming, and getting in and out of his wheelchair.

He needed help with almost everything!

Then, one day, something changed.

On September 15, 2022, Richard took his first steps in 17 years. With the help of exciting, new, robotic exoskeleton technology, he could stand and move his lower body! This good news was recorded on the Fox and Friends program on live television.

Richard stated, “The second that I got to stand up and look everybody in the eye…there are not many words to use.”

Exoskeleton is a contraption that wraps at the knees, thighs, and waist. It has a box in the back that contains its programming and battery. This miracle technology is operated by using a watch or side buttons that begin leg movement. But it allows the operator to steer it.

Richard now says he smiles every time he uses the device but especially enjoys being able to walk beside his wife.

The Good News To Take Away:

  • Miracles still happen.
  • Never give up hope.
  • Expect the Unexpected

Some scientific researchers are predicting wheelchairs might well be a thing of the past for most elderly and disabled patients by the year 2035.

The exoskeleton suit is happy news.

Exoskeleton developers are working on getting the suits approved by insurance companies. The suits currently cost anywhere from $45,000 to $100,000. Cheaper suits will soon be on the way.

Fritz Sam

A New York City Uber driver never expected to become a hero on an ordinary day while performing a routine transport to LaGuardia airport. He and his passenger had no idea of the adventure about to unfold.

Yet, when Sam Fritz saw the gathered crowd outside a burning brownstone, he didn’t hesitate to pull over and get out to help. Upon learning that at least one person was still inside the building, Sam knew something had to be done quickly and charged inside to help.

The flames were coming from the second floor, and smoke poured from the windows. Everyone below could see the extent of heat and danger for anyone near the flames. Meanwhile, inside the building, Sam prayed to God to please not let the brownstone blow up!

He found two people, a man near the stairwell and a woman who did not want to leave the building. He convinced the woman to get out and saw her safely outside.

Then, he went back for the man.

By the time Sam led the man to the front door, a policeman and several firefighters had shown up with water hoses. They charged inside the blazing brownstone.

After seeing that everyone was safe, Sam completed his route and delivered his passenger safely to the airport. He apologized to her for smelling like smoke.

“Don’t worry about it.” She told him. “You just saved a life.”

Later, the passenger tweeted that she made it to her flight on time.

Sam stated he tries to live life in a good way and does good things because it helps others. “Because trust me, those little things are going to make a big difference for somebody!”

The Good News To Remember:

  • Heroes are still all around us, ready and willing to help others.
  • All it takes to be a hero is a big heart.
  • Running into a burning building is not always the best course of action. Be wise in your heroism!
